Father Up…the art of mentoring

by Min. James Mitch Williams

A young male child needs to be taught:

  1. How to work on cars
  2. How to do yard work
  3. How to wood work
  4. How to use plumbing and electrical tools
  5. How to cut and weld
  6. How to use heavy machinery
  7. How to protect himself and his family
  8. How to be courageous
  9. How to forgive and not forget
  10. How to listen, follow instructions and lead
  11. How to be loyal
  12. How to treat a woman
  13. How to be a friend
  14. How to love, make love and be loved (making love isn’t always a physical act. It’s how you talk, hold and cherish a woman to make her feel that she is loved, wanted and needed.)
  15. How to get and stay strong and healthy
  16. How to fly a kite
  17. How to ride a bike
  18. How to sail a boat
  19. How to fly in, or fly a plane
  20. How to dress for success
  21. How to win and lose
  22. How to hunt
  23. How to fish
  24. How to clean and cook what he catches and kills
  25. How to manage finances
  26. How to play sports
  27. How to be a team player

As a father, you have to teach your son that he cannot do it alone. He will need a woman that can strengthen him, because she adds to his life; and will not take away from him.

  1. Financially
  2. Emotionally
  3. Spiritually
  4. Physically
  5. Socially
  6. Sexually (make him a stronger man)
  7. Mentally
  8. Medicinally (make sure he’s take drugs for medical purposes only and not recreationally)

And if you didn’t teach him some or all of those things. Did you put him in the hands of someone experienced and trustworthy that could and would help you out?
